Athletes Of The Month Featured GCC News GCC Administrative News
The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from around the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate one female and one male student athlete from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.
GCC August Athletes Of The Month
In the month of August, Matt had 3 Goals and 2 assists in 4 games.
Natalie completed her first month of high school competition with an average of 37.5 for 9 holes and 78 for 18 holes. Natalie shot a 1 over 72 at the GCC #2 Tournament at Ellsworth Meadows to win as an individual and followed that score up with a 34 at Briarwood against North Royalton in a 9 hole match.
Michael is a senior captain and a 4-year letter winner for the Cardinals. In Mentor’s first 2 games of the season, he had 1 goal and 5 assists leading the Cardinals to opening wins.
Gia is the 3rd singles player for the Cardinals this season. She began the season with an 8-1 overall record and won her 1st conference match of the season!
Kyle leads the team is the following categories: team best average of 77.05, team leader in birdies at 22, and team leader in greens in regulation 101. Kyle was awarded Medalist at GCC #1 at Windmill Lakes (73).
Season Record 11-2 (9-1 in singles) (2-1 at Medina doubles tournament). Elizabeth is starting her senior season strong with a 11-2 record. Last year Elizabeth had a successful Junior season where she won the Akron/Medina Sectional and qualified for the Northeast District tournament where she advanced to the second day. Elizabeth is a 4 year varsity player and team captain for tennis. She is also a member of the varsity basketball team.
Jaheim rushed for 308 yards in two games vs. Elyria Catholic and Strongsville.
Over the course of her first 2 matches of the season, Abby had 41 kills, 34 digs, 4 aces, and 1 assist block, over 7 sets.
In a 5-1 victory over Brush on Saturday, August 22nd, Jordan led his team to victory with 4 goals and 1 assist. The Brunswick Boys Soccer team is currently ranked 14th in the state!
Calista is a two sport fall athlete. In tennis, she went 7-2 in the month of August with wins against Avon, Wadsworth, North Ridgeville, Padua, Copley, Nordonia, and Mentor. Calista also plays soccer and is a starting defender for the Blue Devils. In their first 5 games, they have only allowed 4 goals to be scored against them. The Brunswick Girls Soccer team is currently ranked 7th in the state!
