Athletes Of The Month Fall Sports Featured GCC News
The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate student athletes from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.
GCC September Athletes Of The Month
At the Wooster Invitational Evan finished in 1st place with a time of 15:16.1. Then at the Strongsville Fleet Feet Cross Country Invitational Evan 2nd in first place with a time of 15:35.09. Evan will continue his athletic career next year at Walsh University!
Currently, on the season Emerson has 272 digs, 32 aces, and she is averaging 5.6 digs per set! This past week Emerson picked up her 1,000 career dig vs. Strongsville!
Ryan is following up his All-State Sophomore season with another brilliant year as MLB for the Panthers defense. He leads the team in tackles including 41 solo tackles and 9 tackles for loss. He also has 2 sacks on the year.
Jade has had an outstanding senior cross country campaign competing in top events. She finished 12th out of 154 runners at the Glen Oak Invitational, took 9th at the Paul Primeau Invitational, and placed 37th out of 188 at the Mentor Cardinal Classic. She took 12th at the Pat Ritchie Invitational and ran her fastest time ever at the Strongsville Invitational with a time of 20:15.63s, which qualified her for a 29th place finish.
Brennen is a wide receiver on the varsity football team. He currently leads the team with 43 receptions and 612 receiving yards, while he averages 14.2 yards per catch. He is also tied for the team lead in TD receptions (6).
Makenzie leads the team in aces, kills, and digs, and is second in assists and blocks. She was named Player of the Match five times in the month of September. Makenzie is also Top 5 in the GCC in all statistical categories.
Elliot is the senior captain for the Cardinals soccer team and has 7 goals and 8 assists on the year so far.
Alyssa is a senior captain of this year’s soccer team! She currently has 6 goals and 2 assists on the season!
Josh has become a consistent leader during his first season on the Comets varsity team. He continues to improve and is a big part of our team’s success.
Kelsey is one of the comets team captains and she is a great leader on and off the court. She plays Libero for the comets and she is off to a great start for the 2021 season!
Dean is the Mustangs #1 golfer this year and is averaging 75.47 for the year. He shot 69 to win the Walsh Invitational against some of the best players in the state. Dean also shot 72 at the Wooster Invite to finish in second place. His last 4 rounds have been consistent where he shot 73 at the St. Ed Invite at Oberlin CC to finish second, 73 at Aurora Invite at Barrington CC to win the individual championship, and 73 to win the Edison Invite at Sawmill Creek by 3 shots and beat 110 golfers in the field. Finally, he shot 73 in the last GCC invite to finish second. He finished second in every GCC tournament this year and broke the freshman scoring record by 1.5 shots that stood for 22 years. Dean is also a great student carrying a 5.0 GPA.
Natalie was the overall individual medalist for the GCC as a sophomore. For the month of September, she averaged a 40 for 9 holes and 78 for 18 holes, while finishing first and second in this month’s GCC tournaments.
