GCC MAY ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate student athletes from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.

Zaria: State Qualifier Long Jump. At the Port Clinton Regional Meet she jumped 17-06.00. Chris: State Qualifier 100 M, 200 M, 4 x200 Relay and 4 x100 Relay! Chris also broke two school records at the GCC Championship meet in the 100 M and 200 M Dash!
Robbie: State Qualifier in the High Jump. Jay’Vier: State Qualifier in the 200m & 400m
Eve is hitting her stride at the right time. She was named the Female MVP at the Euclid Relays and set new personal records in the 100 m (12.41), 200 m (25.11), and 400 m (57.57) at the OHSAA District Meet. Eve also qualified for the OHSAA State Track Meet in the 200 m. Malik finished the season going 6-for-12 at the plate and led the team in runs scored in May. This helped boost him to the second best batting average on the team for the season. Malik was also one of the top base stealers on the team with a 92% stolen base percentage.
Lauren became one of the first Medina County athletes to qualify for four (4) straight state track meets since 2019. She was crowned Regional Champion in the 100m hurdles and also finished 3rd in the Long Jump to claim two state berths. Lauren also was the Greater Cleveland Conference and District Champion in the 100m hurdles. She was also Honorable Mention in the GCC with a 3rd place finish in the Long Jump and a 2nd place finish at the District Meet. Jake was named Greater Cleveland Conference Track MVP for his efforts at the league meet a few weeks ago. He earned All-GCC honors in the 3200m run (1st place), the 1600m run (2nd place), and as a member of the 4×800 Relay team (2nd place). Jake was also the District Champion in the 3200m run and as a member of the 4×800 Relay team. He has earned a trip to the State Meet in two events by finishing 4th in the 3200m run and as part of the 4×800 Relay team that finished in 3rd place at the Regional Meet.
Ava: Season stats of 26 goals, 12 assists, 21 ground balls. Jaden: All GCC in track, Regional qualifier in 4×100, 110 Hurdles and 300 Hurdles. Qualified for the state track meet in the 300 hurdles
Jennifer had an outstanding month of May competing in both the GCC Championships and the OHSAA District and Regional Meets. Below are some of Jennifer’s highlights that helped her and her team qualify for the OHSAA State Championship meet at the University of Dayton. GCC Championships 100M Hurdles (2nd place) 300M Hurdles (1st place) 4×200 Relay Team (1st place) OHSAA District Meet 100M Hurdles (1st place) 300M Hurdles (1st place) 4×200 Relay Team (1st place) OHSAA Regional Meet 100M Hurdles (2nd place) 4×200 Relay Team (3rd place) Will Taigen capped off an outstanding senior season for the Raider baseball team, compiling an overall season batting average of .380 while earning All-Conference recognition. In an exciting moment in Will’s last home game during the OHSAA tournament, he threw out a runner at the plate to end the game and preserve a 5-4 victory over Normandy HS. Will is an amazing 2-sport athlete (Soccer and Baseball), carries a 4.6 GPA, and will continue his academic and baseball career at Washington University-St. Louis next year. Will is simply one of the finest student-athletes to come out of Shaker Heights HS and represents the very best of Raider Nation.
