GCC SEPTEMBER ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate student athletes from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.

Ava and Abby (Tennis 1st Team Doubles) Were 10-0 in the month of September and were 20-2 during the regular season. At the OHSAA playoffs, they advanced to the sectional quarterfinals match! Great season Girls! Cooper Neel (Football) So far this season, Cooper has 6 Rushing Touchdowns and 588 Total Yards of Offense!
Jayda: 1st Place in Girls Varsity Race at the McDonough! Alex: 1st Place in Boys Varsity Race at the McDonough!
Malik is a leader on the cross country team, pushing himself and his teammates to get better. He finished 21st at the Pat Ritchie Invitational and then improved to a 14th place finish at the McDonough Invitational. He was a big contributor to the team’s 3rd place finish at the Paul Primeau Invitational by finishing in 9th place. Kei’Shjuan has been lights out on defense this season, leading the team in interceptions. Against Whetstone, he had one interception and forced a fumble. He also had an interception returned for a touchdown against Shaker Heights.
Megan earned Greater Cleveland Conference Player of the Year honors by finishing in 1st Place at First Singles during the GCC Tournament. She earned the #4 seed at the OHSAA Division I Sectionals hosted by Springside Athletic Club and advanced to the Quarterfinals. Cooper rushed 27 times for a school-record 291 yards and 3 touchdowns against Euclid. This broke the previous record set back in 1947. He leads the team with 77 rushing attempts for 632 yards and 6 touchdowns on the season. Cooper also leads the team on defense with 60 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.
Nora is the number 1 runner for the Cards and has been in the area’s top 10 all season. She finished 7th overall at the Cloverleaf Invitational! Scotty: Through the 1st 5 games Scotty has a 62% pass completion percentage for 1,098 yards and 17 touchdown passes
B’Lise Bradley, is great leader on and off the court. She motivates her teammates to play at their best. She averages 5 kills, 3 stuffed and assisted blocks, 4 aces per game. B’lise is a great example of a leader and mentor to the younger girls in the program. She is committed to continuing her academic and athletic career at James Madison University. Great job, B’Lise! Joey Moore played golf just 10 times before deciding to try out for the 2023 team. He finished as our 6th man on a district-qualifying team. In 2024, after continued improvement, he qualified for the OHSAA District tournament earning 17th place with a score of 80 at the loaded Sectional tournament at Quail Hollow. Joey is a rare example of quick success demonstrating love for the game, athletic ability, and finding the mind-space to compete at a high level. Joey is also a significant contributor on the Shaker ice hockey and boys lacrosse teams. Congrats Joey!
Senior Allanah Hagen and Junior Kadison Rood played first doubles for the Mustangs and earned a 2nd place finish at the GCC Tournament with a 7-6,6-1 win over Brunswick in the semifinals before dropping a close 7-5,6-3 match to Medina in the championship. At the OHSAA Sectional at Medina, the duo defeated St Joseph Academy in three sets and Amherst Steel in straight sets to advance to the Sectional Quarterfinals. Other highlights for Hagen/Rood include wins over Wadsworth, Mentor & North Olmsted. JJ Pleasant Safety/Special Teams 2 punt return TDs, 1 kickoff return TD, and 1 Forced fumble.
