GCC JANUARY ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate student athletes from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.

LilShe led the Brunswick girls to the GCC Meet title with four first place finishes. This included individual wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and also first place finishes in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. She was also undefeated in individual dual meet races in the month of January, which included meets against Cleveland Hts (200 Free, 100 Free), Shaker Hts (50 Free, 500 Free), and Brecksville (200 IM, 500 Free). Colin shot a team high 556 at the final GCC event to help the Blue Devils finish 2nd overall. He has consistently led the team throughout the month of January during his sophomore season.
Ta’Mya Bouie currently 28-2 and has won the last three big tournaments we’ve been in which included the Austintown Fitch, Nordonia and Brunswick Wrestling Tournaments. James Betti: In the month of January he had 69 saves on 76 shots with a save percentage of .908!
Hailey finished as runner-up in the all-around at the Greater Cleveland Conference regular season meet. At the same meet, she finished in 3rd on the beam, 4th on the vault, 5th on the bars, and 6th on the floor. Hailey captured 1st place in the all-around and uneven parallel bars at the Magnificat meet. She also placed 2nd on the beam and 3rd on the vault and floor exercise. Hailey also finished 3rd on the beam, 5th on the floor, and 6th in the all-around as she helped the Bees to a runner-up finished at the Kenston Invitational. Taegan was crowned champion at the Josh Hephner Memorial Tournament hosted by Austintown Fitch High School. He won the 126-pound championship by winning six (6) matches, including the final match, by pin and another by technical fall. Taegan also helped the Battling Bees to a 7th Place finish at the Maumee Bay Classic. He finished runner-up in the 120 pound weight class.
Cali Otero: Finished 2nd at Fremont Ross Tournament and 3nd at Akron North Tournament; currently ranked fifth in the state with a 25-5 overall record. DJ Otero: Placed 4th at Perrysburg, 2nd at Berkshire, and went undefeated in duals including defeating a wrestler ranked 4th in the state 8-0.
Libby Davis: 9 dual meet individual event wins back through January 6 invitational individual event wins back through January, including at sectionals in the 100 Free and 100 Back Just missed the school record by .1 in the 100 back. Jack Kennedy: For the season Jack is averaging 19.4 points per game, 8.6 assists per game, 6.6 rebounds per game and 4 steals per game.
Drew Watkins (Sophomore) has continued to be a strong force for the Raiders following a standout freshman year (where she placed 23rd at the Northeast District Championships). Recent Form: Throughout January 2026, Watkins has been a consistent top finisher in dual meets. She set a new team record at the meet at Beachwood on January 7th. GCC Championships: At the recent conference meet, she remained a key scorer for the girls’ team, helping Shaker Heights maintain their standing against heavy hitters like Medina and Brunswick. Alex Thome (Senior) is currently finishing his final season with the Raiders. He has been instrumental in the boys’ diving rotation. Along with teammates like Laurence Sison (who was a January Athlete of the Month in 2025), Thome’s scores in January have contributed to Shaker’s competitive edge in the GCC dual meet circuit. Alex was this year’s GCC Diving Champion.
Amanda Weiss: GCC CHAMPIONSHIP (1st in 100 Freestyle, 2nd in 200 Freestyle Relay, 3rd in 50 Freestyle, 4th in 200 Medley Relay), 1st in 200 Freestyle & 500 Freestyle vs Avon, 1st in 200 Freestyle & 100 Freestyle vs Nordonia, 1st in 200 Freestyle vs Shaker Heights, and 1st in 100 Freestyle vs Walsh Jesuit. Gavin Siliko: GCC CHAMPIONSHIPS (1st in 200 Freestyle Relay, 2nd in 200 IM, 2nd in 200 Medley Relay, 3rd in 100 Breaststroke), 1st in 500 Freestyle vs Walsh Jesuit, 1st in 200 IM & 100 Freestyle vs Shaker Heights, 1st in 200 IM & 100 Breaststroke vs Nordonia, 1st in 200 IM vs Avon.
