GCC APRIL ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate student athletes from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.

Zaria: The Miami (OH) commit broke the schools long jump record, jumping an 18-2 at the Nordonia Relays on 4/11. This is the 3rd time she has set the record in this event. The 7 time state qualifier also PR’d with a 12.5 in the 100m and a 25.54 in the 200m. Zaria consistently competes in 4 events at every meet, and also runs the 400m and is a member of the 4×4 team. Riley: The freshman 1st baseman was brought to the varsity level a few games into the season, and in his first 8 games he has hit 5 home runs while leading the team with a .538 batting average, is 2nd in total hits, and 1st in RBI’s.
Michael has been selected as Student-Athlete of the Month due to his outstanding leadership and dedication. He consistently demonstrates leadership both on and off the volleyball court through his performance, academics, ability to unite teammates, and commitment to positive team cohesion. Michael made a significant position change from libero to setter this season, embracing the adjustment for the benefit of his team. As one of the most vocal players on the court, he sets the tone with his competitive mindset and commitment to working hard as a team. Last season, as a libero, Michael led the team in serve-receive passes and defensive digs. This season, after transitioning to setter, he continues to make a strong impact by leading the team in serving aces and defensive digs. Amara Scored her 200th career goal on April 25th against Ottawa Hills! Markos is currently batting .396 for the season!
Ryann has 25 hits in 45 at bats along with 19 runs scored, 17 RBIs, and 8 walks. That is a .556 batting average with a .733 on base percentage. She has helped the team to an overall record of 14-5 and 6-1 in the GCC. Jackson ran 48.51 in the 400m at GlenOak for a new school record. He anchored the 4x400m relay at the Berea Titan Relays to a 3:19.64, which is a new meet record and #2 all-time in MHS history. Jackson also ran 21.57 in the 200m at Woodridge which is also #2 all-time in MHS history. He also ran 10.86 in the 100m in the Euclid dual meet that is also #2 all-time in MHS history.

Jaxson: .449avg .518obp 1.110 ops ,.592 slg, 5 2b 1 3b 6 sb. Gianna: In the 100 hurdles placed 1st at the Mentor Cardinal Relays, North Canton Invitationals, Lorain, Brunswick and Euclid Dual Meets. Also a member of several top placing relay events.
Sophomore softball sensation Emerson Miller has been on a tear in April, batting .591 with 11 RBI’s, 2 HR, 1 2B, .944 fielding percentage with 9 putouts. She brings an incredible presence in the field at shortstop and in the batter’s box and is a foundation piece for the Shaker Softball program’s success on and off the field. Great job, Emerson! Junior track athlete Luigi Cortese has had an outstanding April, winning the 3200M races at the Lakewood, Beachwood and Shaker invitationals, setting a new meet record at Shaker with a time of 9:49. He has also participated in numerous relays that finished first or second, and was meet MVP at the Woodard-Richard Invitational. Great job, Luigi!
Addison Heidenhoffer is a senior softball player. This season she surpassed 500 career strikeouts and broke the school record for season strikeouts that’s been set for almost 30 years. She has thrown almost every inning this season and been a great example in our program. After opening the month of April with a loss at #3 Solon, the first doubles team of Senior Phil Taran and Sophomore Luke Huber went on a seven match winning streak, helping the Mustangs to a 2nd place finish in the GCC regular season and locking up the 1st seed at first doubles at the GCC Tournament. The duo had wins against Walsh Jesuit (6-2,6-0), Medina (6-0,6-1), Mentor (6-2,6-1), Brunswick (6-0,6-3), Shaker Heights (6-3,3-6,6-2), St. Ed’s (6-2,6-3) and #5 North Royalton (6-3,6-3). Sam won both the 110H, 300H at the Conference championship and was a part of the 4×4 and 4×2 team placers.
