Greater Cleveland Conference October Athletes Of The Month

The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from around the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate one female and one male student athlete from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.

GCC October Athletes Of The Month

Mia led the Blue Devils this season with 443 assists. She also had 113 digs and 31 blocks. She is a team captain and sets 6 rotations. Her leadership and ability to run the offense was crucial in the team’s success in winning the conference title this year. She had 42 assists (season-high) in her last conference match vs Medina. She was also 2nd on the team for digs that match.
Tomas plays on the offensive and defensive line for the Blue Devils. This season on defense, Tomas had 20 total tackles (6 solo and 14 assisted), 4 tackles for loss, and 2 punt blocks! Tomas also plays on the offensive line which only gave up a total of 13 sacks the entire season! Next year, Tomas will continue his athletic career and play at West Virginia University!
NiKayla has been a team leader all year long as she is one of Euclid’s team captains. She leads on the court, leading the team in kills, as well as in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA!
Cam had a great month leading the Euclid defensive secondary as safety. During the month, he had multiple interceptions including a pick 6. Cam has committed to play football at Eastern Michigan University!
Jenna qualified as an individual runner for the OHSAA Division I Cross Country State Championships by finishing in 28th place at the Boardman Regional Meet. She finished in 3rd place in her section race at the District Meet. Jenna finished in 5th place at the GCC Championships at Strongsville High School to earn All-GCC honors. She also finished in 8th place at the Medina Festival (Gold Division) earlier in the month.
Luke helped lead the Medina Battling Bee football team to its first-ever Regional Championship game in school history. This historic playoff run included back-to-back victories over Saint Edward and Saint Ignatius. Luke finished this season with 66 receptions for 1,039 yards and 15 Touchdown catches. In the month of October (5 games), he compiled 33 receptions for 479 yards and 6 Touchdown catches. Against Saint Edward he finished with 6 catches for 63 yards and 3 TDs and against Saint Ignatius he hauled in 10 catches for 186 yards and 2 TDs.
Emma recently achieved her 1000 career dig. This past month she had 14 aces, 150 digs averaging 21 digs per match, and had 134 serve receptions with only 3 errors. She will be continuing her volleyball and education career at Cleveland State University!
Evan was all Greater Cleveland Conference with a 40 stroke scoring average and a low round of 35. He shot an 80 at sectionals to lead his team to a district berth. He was also captain of this year’s team!
Kaitlin was the leader of the Solon Girls Golf Team this season. She was the GCC Player of the Year! Kaitlin qualified for the District Golf Tournament and the OHSAA State Golf Tournament where she finished 12th overall!
Eli is a dedicated golfer having qualified for the District Tournament. His example in both practices and matches led to all team members looking up to him for what they should be striving to accomplish!
Julia competed in the Medina Invitational, Greater Cleveland Conference Championship and District Championship. She was the #1 runner in all 3 events. She was the GCC runner of the year for her 1st place finish and she was the Winner of the District Championship for the second year in a row. At the OHSAA state meet she finished 11th overall!
As a member of the boys cross country team, John ran a best time of 19:38 as a freshman. He lowered that to 17:14 in his sophomore year. Then this year, as a junior, he ran 16:38 and earned All Greater Cleveland Conference! John’s academic bio includes a 4.3 weighted GPA, mostly honor and AP courses, and an award in algebra 2/trigonometry. In addition to cross country, he also runs track!
