The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate student athletes from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.
GCC October Athletes Of The Month
In the month of October, the doubles team of juniors Bhavya Anoop and Delia Guzic advanced to the Northeast Ohio District Tournament at Springside as the 3 seed from the Elyria Sectional. In the Sectional Tournament, the pair defeated Avon Lake (6-2, 6-1), Steele (6-0, 6-0), and Bay (6-1,6-2) to clinch a spot at Districts and advance to the Sectional Semifinals where they fell to #2 Magnificat 6-0,6-3. The duo then defeated #4 Avon 6-1, 6-0. Anoop/Guzic won the first round of districts over #2 Highland 6-3, 7-5 before falling to #1 North Canton Hoover and #1 Kenston (1-6, 6-7) to end the season one match shy of qualifying for the state tournament. For the season, Anoop/Guzic went 8-4 together, falling only to state qualifying doubles teams.
CJ was one of the Mustangs best defensive football players this season! He is a leader for the Mustangs in everything he does.
Kaitlin has been the leader for the Comets Girls Golf Team for the past 2 seasons. Her 9 hole average was 37.0 highlighted by a 68 in the District Golf Tournament this year!
Tyler was a leader, playmaker, and tone setter on the Comets Soccer Team this fall. His work ethic and dedication to excellence in the classroom and on the soccer field are an inspiration to all in our program!
Savannah ran an 18.46 to win this year’s GCC Championship meet for GCC runner of the year honors!
Josh ran a 16:27 at the Conference Cross Country meet which had him finish 3rd overall. This was his best time for the month of October!
Aubrey led the team in kills during the month of October with 72 and averaged 14 per match!
Keon is a starting safety on the #1 ranked Division I football team in the state of Ohio. He helped the Battling Bees to an undefeated regular season and its first league title since 1973. His October stats included 20 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 3 passes broken up. He also had 3 straight games with an interception and one of those he returned for a touchdown against Lorain!
Comyah led the Panthers in assists this season after transitioning from outside hitter to setter! She was also named to the All-Conference team!
Elijah scored in regulation to force OT and converted the deciding penalty kick to give Euclid boys soccer their first playoff win since 2014!
At the GCC Conference meet Teo finished in 2nd place and helped lead the Blue Devils to a 1st place finish! Teo also helped the team qualify for the state meet with 3rd place finishes at the OHSAA District and Regional Meets!
At the OHSAA District Meet Alex finished in 3rd place with a time of 16:14.8. Then at the Regional Meet, he finished in 17th place and qualified as an individual for the OHSAA State Meet!
