GCC October Athletes Of The Month

The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate student athletes from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.

At the OHSAA D1 Region 1 Cross Country Meet Ella finished 51st overall with a time of 21:20.39! She then qualified for the State Championship Meet where she finished 29th overall with a time of 19:32.10! Ella also plays soccer in the fall where she plays Forward, Midfield, and Defense. She helped lead her team to a 5-1 victory over North Olmsted in the OHSAA Playoffs! This season Keegan had 64 tackles, 7 TFL, 2.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 pass breakup!
Anna: Season Stats: 62 kills, 40 kill%, 85% serve, and 37 blocks! Alex Burke was 7th at the GCC meet and is all Conference 1st Team. Time was 16:30, over all PR 16:07 at Madison Invitational!
Comyah is one of the Senior leaders on the volleyball team. She helped the team get a big win on Senior Night against Cleveland Heights with 6 aces, 7 kills, and 8 digs. In the last home match of the season, Comyah had 3 aces, 5 kills, and 6 digs against Fairview. Kei’Shjuan had a team-high 4 interceptions this season despite not starting the season on Varsity. He also scored our first touchdown against Cleveland Heights on October 13th.
Alexis qualified for the OHSAA State Championship Meet by finishing in 19th place overall at the Division I Boardman Regional Meet. She also finished in 2nd place at the Greater Cleveland Conference Meet earlier in the month to earn All-GCC honors. Haley qualified for the OHSAA State Championship Meet by finishing in 24th place overall at the Division I Boardman Regional Meet. She also finished in 6th place at the Greater Cleveland Conference Meet earlier in the month to earn All-GCC honors. Danny has completed 263-of-385 passes this season for a completion percentage of 68%. He has thrown for 3,768 yards and 45 touchdown passes. He has also rushed for 798 yards on 135 attempts. He averages 5.9 yards per carry and has 13 rushing touchdowns this season. He also has an average of 57.3 yards per punt with his longest punt being 68 yards. One of 4 finalists for the 2023 FOX8 “Friday Night Touchdown” Player of the Year award.
Nora finished in 6th place in the GCC championships in 19:39 to earn all conference honors. At Districts, Nora helped guide her team to a regional berth by placing 6th and running a lifetime PR 19:13.1 The senior safety Antonio had 87 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 3 tackles for loss for the Cards this season as an All Conference selection!
Grace Kaelber achieved amazing success during the month of October and helped pace the Shaker Heights Girls Cross Country team to one of its most successful months on record. Check out Grace’s amazing October and the success of the entire Raider XC team: October 7 (Legends Meet) = 2nd place finisher, Legends Team Champs October 14 (GCC Meet) = 3rd place finisher, GCC Team Champs October 21 (OHSAA Districts) = 2nd place finisher, District Team Champs October 28 (OHSAA Regionals) = 15th place finisher, Regional Team Runner-Up Grace and the girls cross country team will compete at the OHSAA State Championship meet at Fortress Obetz. Go Raiders! Abdullah Ahmad is a co-captain of the Raider football team and capped off an outstanding senior season during the month of October. He tallied 126 attempts, 74 completions, 59% completion rate, 1,078 passing yards, 8 passing TDs, 2 INTs while also carrying the ball 30 times for 101 rushing yards and 3 rushing TDs. During his senior season, Abdullah set school records for passing yards in a game and in a season. Great job, Abdullah!
Julia Rocky is a leader who always thinks about what is best for the team and how they can improve. She is hardworking and dedicated to all she chooses to do. Vinnie made the all conference team earlier in the month but his real accomplishment was winning a 4 man for 2 spot playoff to qualify for the state golf championship. He is the only golfer in the conference that qualified for state.
