GCC February ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate student athletes from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.

 

Rylan: At the GCC Championships, Rylan led her team to a 1st place finish in the 200 Medley Relay! She also placed fifth overall in the 200 Y IM! At the OHSAA NW District Championship she helped her team qualify for the State meet being apart of the 200 Medley Relay where they finished 2nd. In the 200 IM she finished fourth overall with a time of 2:19.16! At the State Meet, her 200 Medley Relay team finished 22nd overall with a time of 1:51.49. Rylan also competes in Soccer & Track & Field for BHS! Brayden: In the Month of Feb, Brayden was 5-2 with 3 pins and 2 major decisions! Earlier in the season he won the Josh Hephner Memorial Wrestling Tournament!
Sophia: Senior, 4 year letter winner, team captain 9-time District qualifier 4.65 GPA Sectionals: 9th place in the 100 butterfly; member of 4th place 200 medley relay, 4th place 200 free relay, and 6th place 400 free relay. Districts: 22nd place in the 100 butterfly; member of 15th place 200 medley relay, 16th place 200 free relay, and 19th place 400 free relay. Aaron: 4 year letter winner, team captain 8-time District qualifier 4.65 GPA Sectionals: 3rd place in the 200 freestyle, 6th place in the 100 butterfly, member of 2nd place 200 freestyle relay and 4th place 400 freestyle relay. Districts: 14th place in the 200 freestyle, 18th in the 100 butterfly, member of the 11th place 200 freestyle relay and 12th place 400 freestyle relay.
Shamaiia helped lead her team to a 2nd place finish in the GCC Conference Tournament, leading the team with 435 pins in three games. She also finished 9th at the Sectional Tournament with 432 pins. Thai led the team in scoring during the month of February, averaging 26 points a game. His highest games were 40 points against Benedictine and 31 points against Shaker Heights.
Olivia has helped the team to a regular season record of 18-4 overall and an appearance in the Division I District Final. She scored her 1,000th point vs Strongsville on 1/10/24 and just recently moved into 2nd in school history with 1,192 points. Olivia was named to the All-GCC team and voted as Co-Player of the Year in the Greater Cleveland Conference. She averages approximately 19 ppg, 5 rpg, 5 spg, and 3 assists per game. This is her third year as a starter and first as team captain. She is the school’s leader for 3 pointers in a single season and shoots almost 86% from the free throw line. Olivia has scored in double figures for the Bees in 31 consecutive games. Kellen earned All-Ohio honors by finishing in 16th Place at the OHSAA Division I Boys Swimming State Meet Finals in the 200 Freestyle. He qualified for state in two individual events (200 Free & 500 Free) and two relays. Kellen finished 2nd at the Bowling Green District in the 500 Free and 3rd in the 200 Free. He was also Champion in the 200 Free and 500 Free at the Cleveland State Sectional.
Heather: 612 series in the GCC tournament with a 180 average for the month. Individual champion at the Roseland Lanes Sectional. She finished 29th overall at the District Tournament. Liam: 32- 7 on the year overall and was a Sectional Champion!
Sidney led the Mustangs to a conference championship win against Medina scoring 30 points! Ava Ketterer is the senior captain of this years SHS Mustangs Gymnastics Team. She is a top contributor on all four events and helped lead the team to a GCC championship victory, runner up title at districts and qualification to the state team finals. Individually she scored her first ever 9.0 on vault at a five team meet at Brecksville, she followed that up with a personal best 9.2 at the Cleveland High School Challenge Invitational. At the GCC conference championship she placed 3rd on vault with a 9.15 and was named to her first ever All GCC team. She provided top scores on vault and floor at the district championshps and turned in a clutch performance on bars to help secure the team a trip to Columbus. Aside from her results at competitions, Ava has been a tremendous leader on our young team as we prepared for the post season and has been a big part of why our season is continuing in Columbus in March.
