Athletes Of The Month Featured GCC News Winter Sports
The Greater Cleveland Conference has a new program to recognize outstanding monthly performances by our GCC Athletes. Athletic Directors from around the Greater Cleveland Conference will nominate one female and one male student athlete from their school based on their monthly performances and accomplishments.
GCC December Athletes Of The Month
Derek is 14-2 on the season and 2-0 in the GCC. Derek was Champion at 152 lbs. at the Solon Comet Classic and also named the tournaments “Most Outstanding Wrestler”. Derek also competed at the Walsh Ironman Tournament. At the Medina Invitational Tournament (MIT) Derek was the Champion at 152 lbs. and was also named the tournament MVP.
Jordan has helped the Brunswick girls swimming team to a 4-1 start winning 12 events. At the GCC Swimming Championships Jordan finished in first place in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:26.63.
Jake placed 1st at the Brecksville Holiday Tournament, 3rd at the Beast of the East Tournament, and Runner Up at the Walsh Ironman Tournament!
Katie won three individual events in the triangular meets against North Ridgeville/Valley Forge and Solon/Euclid. She posted a season-best time of 27.92 in the 50-yard Freestyle and 1:11.6 in the 100 Butterfly.
Steven hit the game winning shot vs. Strongsville and he had a stellar performance scoring 33 points vs. Glenville.
So far this season Alexis is averaging 13.7 points per game, 11.4 rebounds per game, 1 steal per game and has a 52% Field Goal Percentage. Alexis was also named The News Herald Player of the week for the 2nd week of December.

Anthony led all qualifiers at the recent Muskingum University Invitational Tournament in Canton. Anthony shot games of 267 (highest in the tournament) 232 and 187 for a 686 Series. Anthony also averaged well over 200 for matches in the month of December. Anthony is a two handed release bowler.
So far this season Carolyn is averaging 13.0 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game, and 3.2 steals per game. Carolyn is shooting 56.7% from behind the arc.
Dakota averaged 23 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 3 APG, and 5 SPG in leading the Raiders to a 6-1 overall record and a 3-0 record in the GCC to start the season.
Natalia recorded 1st place finishes in the 100 Freestyle vs. Mentor, Solon and Medina. She was also a part of the 200 & 400 Freestyle relay teams that took 1st place vs. Solon and Mentor and Medina. Natalia also placed 1st in the 100 Freestyle and 200 IM and was also a part of the 200 & 400 Freestyle relays all vs. Mayfield.
So far this season Vince is averaging a pin total of 212. He had a six-game pin total of 1275 against Twinsburg, Euclid, and Brunswick. Vince has performed amazingly in the leadoff and anchor positions. His rock-solid start to the season has helped propel the Comets to a 3-0 start.
Savannah has excelled in her game and is taking it to the next level this season. She has increased her average over ten pins from last year thus far. She has been extremely supportive of her teammates and was voted captain of her team. She is keenly aware of keeping up with her studies! She is truly deserving of this honor. Savannah has become one of the leaders of our Girls Bowling Team through her improvement on the lanes and support of her teammates.
